The SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme was created as a collaboration with industry leaders to match relevant employers with potential employees and help expand this sector of the market. Beginning in March 2015, the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme came about in several phases. It all began with sectors in Aerospace, Construction, Food Services and Manufacturing, Game Development, Logistics, Information Technology, Engineering (Offshore and Marine), Precision Engineering, Retail, and Public Transportation.
As time progressed, so did the programme and it now offers even more sectors for graduates to take advantage of in Accounting, Air Transportation, Energy and Chemicals, Electronics, Healthcare, Facilities Management, Maritime, Hotel Management, Spatial Design and Visual Communication.
Who is the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme for?
This programme is to serve both individuals and employers alike. For individual people, qualified graduates must be Singaporean or hold a Singapore Permanent Resident card, and they must be recent graduates in the fields of ITE and polytechnics. For employers to qualify for the programme, they can be for profit or non-profit agencies as long as they are registered or have been incorporated properly in Singapore.
How does the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme work?
How the programme works depends on which way you approach it. For individual persons, a job that directly relates to your skill sets in your area of study will be matched to you. For a period of 12 months to 18 months, you’ll undergo a structured training programme that will provide you with further learning with the on-the-job training and work-related projects. The goal is so that by doing this, you will strengthen your skills within the workplace. Every individual will be assigned a mentor within the company to help provide guidance and support during the programme. Additionally, you will also have a clear structure to lead you down the pathway to your successful career. When you have completed the programme, you will receive certification that is recognized by the industry. It’s also possible that an increase in wages and/or a promotion of position make occur based on excellent performance.
For employers, the programme will match qualified candidates to a job that pertains directly to their field of study. You’ll provide them with training on-the-job as well as select mentors from within your company to help each candidate achieve greatness. As each candidate progresses down their career path with you, you will help them to flourish and hopefully become a permanent fixture in your company.
